03rd February 2009:
Now that the dust has settled on various developments over the
last month Buckfastleigh Rangers would like to announce the following
changes at the club:
Firstly it is with regret that we have to announce that long
serving secretary Tim Crimp has made the decision to step away from his
position at the club and take a well earned break from football.
Tim has been a tremendous asset to the club over the years and his hard
work and dedication will be sorely missed, everyone at the club would
like to say a big thank you to Tim for the work he has done for Buckfastleigh
Rangers Football Club.
Taking over from Tim as Club Secretary will be youth team Secretary
Teresa Hill, Teresa is doing a tremendous job in her new role and we would
like to thank her for taking over from where Tim left off.
Thanks also go to Stuart Furay who has taken on the position
of Matchday Secretary.
It has been well documented that it was our intention to withdraw
our 1st team from the South West Peninsula League next season, we had
informed the league of our intentions before christmas as per league rules,
however, since this has become public knowledge, we have found it increasingly
hard to keep hold of the 1st team players for one reason or another and
Manager Richard Cameron felt he was left with little option but to resign
from his position.
With no Manager and no 1st team players we were left with no option but
to pull out of the league with immediate effect, for which the club have
been fined accordingly.
We plan to apply the the South Devon League next season for a
reserve side to be entered into division 6, this would mean that the current
reserve side would then become the first team (hopefully in division 2!).
Although we would have liked to have seen the season out with 2 teams,
the committee feel that the decisions that have been made are for the
good of the club and see it as taking a small step backwards in order
to be in a position to move forwards, it is also our hope that with two
sides operating in the South Devon League we will be able to involve more
local players and especially local youngsters more readily than we have
been able to in the past.
News travels fast in a small town and the initial reaction from
local residents and businesses has been very positive as has the response
from Buckfastleigh Rangers Social Club, it is fair to say that the relationship
between Football and Social club has not always been perfect, but with
this fresh start both committees are now set towards achieving the same
goal of giving the town of Buckfastleigh a football and social club that
it can be proud to call its own.
